Where the Peninsula’s main roads are far from a fast charger
We found 898 public fast (DC) charging sites in Peninsular Malaysia in six charger maps and registers, and measured the drive from every point on its 13,798 km of expressways, main federal and state roads and roads to resorts, island jetties and parks to the nearest one.
Peninsular Malaysia BL-2026-003
Nearly one in five kilometres of the Peninsula’s main roads is more than 30 km from a fast charger. Half of it is within 10 km of one.
Lime within 10 km of a fast charger, then yellow, orange, red and purple to 75 km; black beyond it.
- Hulu Perak has no listed fast charger, and its roads are the Peninsula’s farthest from one: the road north from Kuala Kangsar through Gerik and the East–West Highway to Jeli are up to 98 km from a fast charger by road.
- Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah have the largest share of main road more than 30 km from a fast charger: 41%, 33% and 27%.
- The east coast road, FT3, has 203 km more than 30 km from one, more than any other road.
- Taman Negara is 77 km by road from the nearest fast charger, and Fraser’s Hill 40 km.
- Two thirds of the fast-charging sites stand in the richest fifth of areas nationally.

What a study for you adds
- Charge-point operators: the sites that would close the most far kilometres, weighted by the traffic on each gap.
- Fuel and highway operators: which of your stations and R&R stops sit inside a gap, and how far each is from a fast charger today.
- Government and planners: where public money closes a gap, and which areas the network leaves out, by household income.
- Car makers and dealers: which routes a buyer can drive today, and where a car’s range matters most.
