AGA GeoAnalitik Executive summary
BL-2026-005

Just over half of young Malay adults within a 10-minute drive of an ayam gepuk outlet

We replaced the 2 km circle around each of Malaysia’s 1,291 ayam gepuk outlets with the area a car reaches in 5, 10 and 15 minutes on a weekday evening, timing the drive from every populated 300 m square of the country to every outlet within 20 minutes. Of the 3.4 million Malay adults counted at ages 18–29 in 2022, 1.85 million (54.4%) are within 10 minutes of an outlet; the other 1.55 million, just over half of them in Kelantan, Kedah, Johor and Perak, are farther away.

Figures revised on 3 October 2026 after a live test of evening trip times, which found the road network too fast on short Klang Valley trips. An example study built from public and aggregate data only; no chain’s sales figures were used. The data is correct as of the study date, 1 October 2026; the study is not refreshed after it.

This study extends the ayam gepuk example study, which described each outlet by a 2 km circle.

The study in 2 minutes: two outlets 42 m apart in Bukit Jelutong, the 1.55 million young Malay adults beyond a 10-minute drive, the four states that hold half of them, and the fast-food sites that would reach the most. AI narration; captions in English.

What changes with drive time

What a study for your chain adds

Limits: drive times come from the road network, scaled to Google’s Tuesday-evening traffic forecast on trips of 5 to 13 minutes; they are modelled, not measured trip by trip, and a live test on a Friday evening ran 12% slower than that forecast (20% in the Klang Valley). Young Malay adults are Malay adults counted at ages 18–29 in 2022; residents are 2020 estimates. Outlets as listed in the ayam gepuk example study.
